Me
A professional "amateur" photographer. Luckily for me, that's not the job that pays the bills. By day I'm an IT guy building
web sites for one of the major sports leagues (and no, I cannot get you tickets).
Where I'm From
Originally Brooklyn, but like many New Yorkers, I followed the usual migration pattern: moved to Staten Island for a few years and eventually settling in Weehawken, New Jersey.
I may be a New Yorker at heart, but I also have ties to Europe, specifically Croatia, where my parents were born. It's a marvelous place and my other home for the summer.
I love to travel and have made my way through France, Luxembourg, Germany, Croatia, Switzerland, Italy and even a few places on this continent.

Why I Do This
Because I have nothing better to do!
But seriously, I first picked up a camera when I was a kid, my dad's clunky Kodak 110mm. It was really basic, and even by 1970's standards it was primitive.
I "borrowed" the old Kodak any chance I could and took lousy photos. After that, I didn't fall back into photography until the late 90's, where I took some classes and created this blog in 1999.
I'm not sure if I have a style to my photography, although my wife likes to call it "street noir" ... the way light, shadows and atmospherics
all work together. I simply like to call it "the mad art of personal perception". If you're a
photographer you'll know what I mean ... you stop to photograph "something" that mystifies everyone around you.
Most of these photos were taken with digital cameras,
and much like the drummers from "Spinal Tap", I've gone through quite a few of them due to "accidents".
As for the photos taken with my dad's 110mm camera, fortunately for me, that evidence has been lost ... well, most of them.
Who is CrashRyan? In case you were wondering ...
Now, as we all know, "Corporate America" really hates it when you have a life outside of the cubicle and
posting my real name on a web site used to be a giant no-no. Thus I created "CrashRyan" to be my "photoblogging persona" ... everyone needs an alter ego right?
We can't all wear a mask and cape.
The title of this web site comes from my two favorite movie characters. The only clues I will give are these lines :
- "The rose goes in the front, big guy".
- "Things down here don't react well to bullets"
Thanks,
Dennis Cernosia
I love that I'm from two cultures and you can see the influence in my photos.
I've come to appreciate the moody "street noir" effects that light and atmospherics play in New York photography, while at the same time,
it's amazing how light I seek out those savor the sun soaked shores of Croatia and the way light plays off it's ancient architecture.
This is the part of the profile where photographers try to describe their metaphysical reasons for loving photography ...
alas I have none to give, except for the theory I like to call "the mad art of personal perception".
If you're a fellow photographer, then you know what I mean. How often do we stop on the street, whip out our cameras and take a photo of something
not obvious to others? Only later does some small object or event reveals itself. It could be emotional, majestic or tragic.
Sometimes it is the blur of organized chaos on a Manhattan street, or the glint of the setting sun on the waters around Primosten in Croatia.
